This rustic antique coffer table from Shanxi province has a beautiful patina throughout. Coffer tables in China had relatively little written about them. This particular piece has beautifully carved flanges with floral motifs often used by northern nomads, They were likely used for clothes and utensil storage by women & servants. The shape of the top mimics the shape of lower kang tables.
This table is from Shanxi, carved with traditional designs on its drawers and lower panels, showcases a beautifully patinated finish. It is crafted from solid northern elm wood (yumu 榆).
