Walnut Side Table From Shanxi - 19th Century

This Chinese Walnut topped side table dates from the 19th century and originally came from Shanxi Province. Originally it would have been coated in a dark lacquer, however, over time, this has mostly worn away on the table top to reveal a beautiful Walnut grain covered in a luxurious patina. Two butterfly joints are visible on the underside, a true relic of ingenious Chinese carpentry.
