The Story

This reproduction Chinese porcelain temple jar is hand painted and made in the classic Chinese style. The "Nine Peach" design depicting lucky peaches and lucky bats symbolises longevity and good luck.

Famille Rose was first seen in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It injected colour into traditional ceramic work, namely shades of pink and carmine - introduced by European Jesuits who worked in the palace. The name 'Famille Rose' translates from French into 'Rose Family'. Common styles found are Rose Canton, Rose Mandarin and Rose Medallion.

Famille Rose has been incredibly popular in Europe and America since its introduction.

A similar vase was sold at Sotheby's Important Chinese Art sale in New York, 2018.
